 A barcode printer is a printing device that uses self-adhesive labels, PET labels, hang tags, etc. as printing media, and can quickly print barcode labels on label paper. The barcode printer has two printing modes: thermal and thermal transfer, so what is the difference between a thermal barcode printer and a thermal transfer barcode printer?

 

1. Different printing supplies

The consumables used in thermal barcode printers are thermal paper. The thermal paper is coated with a coating that will produce a chemical reaction and change color when heated, similar to photosensitive film. For example, the price tags printed in supermarkets are thermal paper. Lower, consumables are lower, and thermal printers can only use special thermal paper.

The consumables used by thermal transfer barcode printers are various types of label paper such as self-adhesive label paper, PET, wash water labels, and hang tags. Thermal transfer barcode printers also need carbon ribbons, and thermal paper can also be used. The cost of the machine and consumables is higher than that of the thermal machine.

 

2, the shelf life is different

The storage time of the media printed by the thermal machine is not long, usually about half a year.

The storage time of the media printed by the thermal transfer machine is longer, generally about two years.

 

3. Different printing methods

Thermal printers print on the principle that the preheating of the coating on the thermal paper will produce a chemical reaction and change color.

Thermal transfer printers attach toner to various types of label paper by heating the ribbon. Consumables such as label paper and ribbon are required. The printing effect is more beautiful, the consumables are widely used, and it is more conducive to high temperature resistance, washing resistance and long-term storage.

 

4. Different scope of use

Thermal barcode machines are suitable for industries that do not require high barcodes, such as shopping malls, clothing stores, logistics, and restaurants.
